Ambulance staff say they feel ‘demonised’ by Government

Striking ambulance staff have said they feel “demonised” by the Government’s attempts to paint them as “uncaring about safety standards”.

In an open letter to Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, the GMB union urges the Government to “talk to us and stop attacking us”.

It comes after Mr Sunak described the widespread industrial action as “terrifying” as the Government introduced the Strikes (Minimum Service Levels) Bill to Parliament, which would set minimum service levels for health, fire, education, transport, nuclear decommissioning and border security services.

Hong Kong DJ who broadcast for six decades dies aged 98

Ray Cordeiro, who interviewed music acts including The Beatles during a six-decade career on Hong Kong radio that earned him the title of the world’s longest-working disc jockey, has died aged 98.

Radio Television Hong Kong, where he worked until 2021, said the veteran died on Friday.

Cordeiro, who was born in Hong Kong in 1924 of Portuguese descent, was recognised by the Guinness Book of Records as the world’s longest-serving DJ.

Jack confirms UK Government to block Scottish gender recognition reforms

The UK Government is to block controversial reforms of the gender recognition process passed by Holyrood, in a move branded by Nicola Sturgeon as a “full-frontal attack” on the Scottish Parliament.

She hit out after Scottish Secretary Alister Jack confirmed he would make an order under Section 35 of the Scotland Act 1998.

It is the first time the UK Government has sought such an order, which will now prevent the Gender Recognition Reform (Scotland)
